Paint T1-11 Siding Panels

Project Scenario

Scott wants to repaint an apartment complex sided with T1-11 panels. What is the best system?

Preparation

  • Pressure wash and wire brush to remove contaminants and unsound substrates.
  • Use mildew retardant solution if necessary. Rinse and let dry thoroughly.
  • Caulk around all windows and doors.
  • Repair or replace any deliminating wood, as necessary.
  • Patch cracks with caulk or XIM Peel Bond.

Top Coat

Best:       522501x Ultimate Exterior
Better:    510101x AC-909 Exterior Satin

Caution! Things to consider

  • Inspect flashing to verify a 3/8" gap between siding and metal flashing.
  • Apply another coat of paint if cracks are still visible.
  • Use back roll technique to fill in cracks.
  • Use a sheen for better protection.
  • Use lighter colors to prevent heat build-up cracking.
