Paint LP Siding
Project Scenario
A homeowner wants to repaint his house. It is sided with LP siding and he has head about all the lawsuits. Now what?
Preparation
- Pressure wash in a downward stream. Try not to inject water up behind the siding.
- Use mildew retardant solution if necessary. Rinse and let dry thoroughly.
- Caulk any exposed face nail patterns with Dap Dynaflex 230 caulking.
- Caulk around windows and doors.
- Replace boards that ends are swollen larger than 5/8", have mushrooms growing out of the end grain, or rotten enough to poke a hole in with a key.
Primer Coat
Prime siding with 501601x First Coat Exterior Latex Primer Sealer.
Top Coat
Caution! Things to consider
- Be aware of cracks in drip edges, especially the bottom 4 boards. After painting, inspect these areas again for good coverage. Reapply another coat, if necessary.
- Inspect flashing around chimney cap.
